In 1974 the original Chinderah Tavern was burnt to the ground. With great gusto and determination a temporary structure was soon erected to meet the needs of the local community. Today, over 30 years later that very same structure still remains, watched over by a beautiful old Strangler Fig tree, planted in 1894 to commemorate the birth of the then-owner's son. Standing over 35 metres in height this magnificent tree has provided shade and shelter to all who visit the Chindy.
