In 1974 the original Chinderah Tavern was burnt to the ground. With great gusto and determination a temporary structure was soon erected to meet the needs of the local community.

 

Today over 30 years later that very same structure still remains, watched over by a beautiful old Strangler Fig tree, planted in 1894 to commemorate the birth of the then owner's son. Standing over 35 metres in height this magnificent tree has provided shade and shelter to all who visit the Chinderah Tavern.
