The Taphouse Group purchased the grand old Coolangatta Sands - known locally as The Sands - in 2006. Since then The Sands has undergone a multi-million dollar refurbishment, transforming it into a contemporary hotel, bistro and entertainment lounge with modern amenities and an historic personality.

History

First granted a license to sell liquor in 1911 this beautiful old pub has seen many a transition throughout the years. A landmark of Coolangatta, many patrons consider it their "watering hole" - almost a second home.

Location

The Sands sits in the heart of Coolangatta and is only a 100m stroll to the nearest surf beach. Gold Coast Airport, catering for domestic and international travellers, is only five minutes away. On the southern tip of the famous Gold Coast, we are only 40 minutes by public transport from the famous theme parks and offer easy access to the world heritage hinterland ranges.

Facilities

The Sands features modern dining in the Bistro, TAB facilities with plasma screens to view races in the Port o Call public bar, a lounge bar with indoor beer garden for enjoying a few relaxing drinks and an entertainment lounge delivering a variety of entertainment including free live music and ticketed performances.

Coolangatta Sands Backpackers Hostel

The brand new 111-bed backpacker hostel occupies the 1st floor of The Sands and offers clean, safe, modern and affordable facilities. International travellers are welcome. We have dorm rooms as well as private rooms and the large balcony features comfortable lounges and views of Coolangatta Beach and the Pacific Ocean. Join the Coolangatta Adventure Crew and try out some of the exciting air, sea and land-based activities that this region has to offer!

Taphouse Cellars - Cellarbrations

The Taphouse Cellars bottleshop offers a wide range of wines, spirits and beers at great prices, with a fine wine Vault at the back of the store for the wine enthusiasts. Enter via Griffith St - open from 10am Q time every day.
